Trinity hosts Tallulah
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Trinity Episcopal returns to Class A Friday as the Saints host Tallulah after dropping games to three top-rated double-A squads.

Trinity fell to Centreville 27-6 Friday after losses to River Oaks and Brookhaven.

"We had a tough stretch and I think we are a better team because of it," said Trinity coach David King. "We are definitely battle-tested. Tallulah has some good athletes and we will have to be focused or it will be another long night."

The Saints scored their only touchdown on a 3-yard carry by R.J. Fleming in the third quarter.

Centreville is the two-time defending Class AA state champion.

The Saints defeated Briarfield in their district opener in the third week of the season.

After two straight wins, Trinity then had a brutal stretch against Central Private, River Oaks, Brookhaven and Centreville.

The Saints, who moved down for Class AA to Class A this season, defeated Central Private before losing its next three games.

Trinity ends its regular season on October 30 at Huntington.

Tallulah defeated Huntington 16-12 last month.

Tallulah scored first with 5:09 left in the second quarter on a 1-yard run by quarterback Jes Shivers.

Shivers passed to John Robert Fortenberry on the conversion.

Tallulah Academy would take the lead for good with 4:54 left in the third quarter on a Cody Landrum 3-yard touchdown carry.

Cody Isaac ran in the 2-point conversion.

The Hounds appeared to pull the game out late, but an 89-yard TD pass play from Jess Dossett to Eric Bowens was negated by a clipping penalty.
