Franklin sweeps Ferriday Ferriday High dropped a pair of games in its season-openers as the Trojans fell to Franklin Parish, while the Lady Trojans came up short against the Lady Patriots, 62-53.
Ferriday's boys fell to Franklin Parish, 83-43.
In the girls contest, Ferriday did not have an answer early for Lady Patriot 6-foot-2 center Latonya Whitley.
"We let her get in her comfort zone too early," Ferriday girls coach Lisa Abron said of Whitley, who led all scorers with 36 points.
Franklin Parish led 10-8 after one period of play and 26-23 at halftime.
The Lady Patriots outscored the Lady Trojans 1-14 in the third period and 20-16 in the final stanza.
Chante Poole led the Lady Trojans with 14 points, followed by T'Keyah Fletcher with 12 points and Jasmine Butler with 10 points.
Abron is counting on Poole more this season after the loss of twin towers Jasmine Upchurch and JaLessia Davis.
"Chante has to step up more and be a leader," Abron said. "This was a good first test for us. I was pleased with the effort and the way the kids fought back. We're going to work harder on our defense, especially against taller players."
In the boys contest, Franklin Parish led 38-19 at halftime.
Brandon Sims led Franklin Parish with 18 points.
"It was a good start for us," said Franklin Parish coach Wystee Kerry. "Ferriday was a bit undermanned because of football. We went out and took care of business."
Ted Gullage led Ferriday with 12 points.
Ferriday's game at Rayville Friday has been cancelled because both teams are in the football playoffs.
Ferriday will play in the Marksville Tournament next week. |
