Police Jury adopts budget for 2010 The Concordia Parish Police Jury adopted a $7.1 million budget for 2010 Monday night, which included a general fund budget of $2.3 million.
The Jury's overall budget also includes a special revenue budget of $4.8 million, which includes its hardsurfacing and public works programs.
In the general fund, revenues for the year are expected to total $2,009,870 and expenses $2,357,879, leaving a deficit of $348,009. However, the end-of-the-year general fund balance will be in the black at $1,046,264 due to reserves.
The special revenue budget shows anticipated revenue of $4,310,758 and expenses of $4,811,027, leaving a deficit of $500,269. But with reserve funds, the yearend balance is expected to be almost $3 million.
Finance Committee Chairman Randy Temple said, "We'll have to watch it close. We're not going to be able to finance any new projects."
"We're going to have to live within our budget," said Jury President Melvin Ferrington.
Ferrington and Temple noted that the Jury received around $100,000 severance tax funds prior to Monday's meeting, which was not reflected in the newly-adopted budget.
