Thoughts on BCS game Sharing my thoughts during the telecast of the 2008 BCS Championship Game on Monday night:
OK, it seemed like October since LSU last played a game. Now it seems like a whole game could have taken place by the time we get to kickoff.
Les Miles took his LSU players to see the movie 300 in preparation for the game. Bet movie's sales climb if LSU wins.
I liked the Glenn Dorsey piece where he is acting like Forest Gump. But Glenn, you are no Glen Davis. Leave the entertainment spotlight to Big Baby.
The Preservation Hall Jazz Band is playing the National Anthem - or is that a New Orleans funeral march? Hope that's not a bad sign.
There's the coin toss. Wow, didn't realize Tony Dorsett was that short of a guy. But he could go. LSU wins toss, elects to kick off. Boy, I hope that doesn't backfire.
Oops, another commercial break - there's that American Idol plug I've been waiting on. Get used to that preview.
Wow, that air conditioner must really be cranked up to blow the football off the tee.
Oh no, 65-yard TD run by Beanie Wells. Apparently not a good decision to kick off.
Bad snap back to LSU 5-yard line. Boy, Les Miles is going to hear it about cutting practices short if this keeps up.
Now it's 10-0 as Ohio State made that drive to a field goal look too easy.
It doesn't look like Jacob Hester is going to be doing a lot of running over people.
OK, big pass completion to Early Doucet. There is life out there in the purple and gold.
Oops, there goes Hester on a long run. Why do I ever doubt this guy?
Big catch by Early Doucet and Charles Scott has a nice run. Guess we won't see him carrying the ball again until the third quarter.
Now there's some confusion and we've seen that before.
Colt David with a field goal. Sure would have been nice to get a touchdown there. I like the idea of Ryan Perriolloux inside the 20-yard line. Wish they would have tried it.
There's Jonathan Zenon complaining about offensive interference. What, no replay? C'mon Fox.
All right, LSU's ball after a heart-stopping fumble by Chad Jones was recovered by Harry Coleman.
Pass on first down - thank you.
Start of second quarter.
Good first down run by Hester. Perrilloux now in. Nice pitch to Keiland Williams for good gain.
C'mon throw the ball.
All right, nice pass to Demetrius Byrd as Flynn was hit when he passed. Great job staying in there. The Animal (James Laurinaitis) got some face mask there as well. Gosh, bet that guy could snap a neck off with no effort - or conscience.
Oh wow, what a great play! Richard Dickson wide open on a quick play. Great call. Tie game. I can breathe again.
OK, I'm headed for my third pit stop. I doubt I had this many relief breaks back in 1958 when I was one year old. I'm starting to understand the commercial aspect of television shows more now that I am a half-century old.
Oh, Chevis Jackson just got lit up by Beanie. Field goal attempt, blocked by Ricky-Jean Francois.
Second-and-1 and an incomplete pass. But I like the call.
Pass to Keith Zinger. Hang on to that ball, big man.
I just don't like that play of Flynn running the football.
Oh wow, James Laurinaitis can't tackle Trindon Holliday on a nice 10-yard run.
Touchdown pass to Brandon LaFell! Another great call. 17-10. That drive resembled those from back in the Virginia Tech game.
Boom!!!
What a hit by Harry Coleman (where did this guy come from?).
OK, the Big 10 does have speed. Guess what, the SEC can get physical.
Interception by Chevis Jackson. Thank you, Bo Pelini.
Great pass play to Dickson. Third and one. Touchdown, Hester. Sorry Thom Brennaman, he got in on that initial surge even before the second effort. 24-10.
I love this AllState commercial - especially the kicker sitting next to the mascot on the bench.
Halftime. Whew, first time start of second half my heartbeat is regular and breathing normal.
This is how it was supposed to be all year.
Wow, did someone leave Uga, Georgia's mascot bulldog, in the Superdome from the Sugar Bowl. Looks like he got ahold of JaMarcus Russell's sweater.
LSU has the ball for the second half.
Did I mention I don't like that play with Flynn running the football to the short side?
Flynn called for intentional grounding? He was outside the yard markers. Where's that replay? Fox's coverage is really terrible.
Whoops, roughing the kicker. How did he miss blocking that?
Personal foul for a nice forearm cheap shot on Zinger. Way to keep your cool, Zinger.
Oh wow, Early Doucet, nice move for a touchdown, 31-10.
Wow, it's almost the fourth quarter and I am not sweating bullets.
OK, OK, enough close-ups of the DLP camera.
I can't imagine folks sitting around saying, "Hey, when are they going to show that DLP up close again?"
And I'm sorry, I just don't get it. The "Jumper" thing. I felt as if I were on a Tilt-a-Whirl.
All right, now Fox's Charles Davis is talking about the '58 championship team. Wrong, the Billy Cannon run was one year later. And Terry and the Pirates was a comic strip, not a TV show.
OK, Ohio State scores after an interception. I knew this was too good to be true.
Fourth quarter, still a little anxious.
Defense needs to come up now. Nice sack. Uh-oh, look of confusion by the Tigers. Wow, big sack for the Tigers.
Fourth and seven with 10:55 remaining.
BOOM II!!!!!.
Ali Highsmith nearly beheaded Boeckman. Coleman takes it a few more yards into OSU territory. Personal foul, LSU. Hmmm? No idea and we sure are not finding out from Fox.
Fourth-and-one. Wow, how does Tyson Jackson not get any holding calls against him. Crazy, that's how it's been all year.
Interception by Curtis Taylor.
Boy, hate Craig Steltz had to miss most of this one.
Flynn nice "juk" move and pass to Dickson for TD. Ball game.
Matt Flynn, offensive MVP. Good choice.
Francois good choice on defense, but Coleman, Dorsey or Highsmith would have been just as good.
Congratulations, Les. And thanks for the wild ride.
See ya! |
