Monterey sweeps Claibone Christian

Monterey High's boys and girls teams swept a pair of games from Claiborne Christian in Monterey Tuesday a week before tipping off District 3B play.

Monterey's girls defeated Claiborne Christian of West Monroe, 45-42.

The Lady Wolves trailed 15-4 after one period, but cut that lead to 29-22 at halftime.

The Lady Crusaders increased their lead to 33-27 after three periods before Monterey roared back in the final quarter, outscoring Claiborne Christian 18-9 for the victory.

Madison Simpson led Monterey with 14 points, while Shaneka Finley added 13.

In the boys contest, Monterey outscored Claiborne Christian 12-10 in the second quarter after both teams scored five points in the opening period.

The Wolves outscored the Crusaders 11-2 in the third period and held on for a 36-27 win.

Beau Shively led the Wolves with 15 points. Jon Lipsey added six.

Monterey High split a pair of games at Sicily Island on Jan. 8.

The Lady Wolves defeated the Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Wolves, 49-32.

Monterey led 9-2 after after one period and 32-9 at halftime.

Madison Simpson led Monterey with 18 points, while Brooke Baker had 14.

Carlos Gary scored 30 points to lead Sicily Island's boys past Monterey, 60-49.

The Tigers led 17-4 after one period of play netted 12 points in the period.

Beau Shively led Monterey with 15 points, while Ross Lipsey added 14.

Monterey fell to Castor in a pair of contests Friday at Monterey.

Monterey hosts Sicily Island Friday in a non-district contest before traveling to Forest Tuesday to open up district play.

Monterey's junior varsity teams play at Jena High on Thursday.
