Ferriday High boys tipped of District 2-2A play with a win as the Trojans defeated Lake Providence 83-47 at Lake Providence Friday.

The Lady Trojans fell to the Lady Panthers, 54-53.

Ferriday's boys jumped out to a 17-7 lead over Lake Providence and led 32-18 at halftime.

The Trojans increased that lead to 58-28 after three periods.

"That was the best game we've played all season," said Ferriday coach K.G. Watkins. "The kids did everything we practiced and wanted to do. They played very well on defense and executed our offense the way we wanted. The kids responded to the challenge of sending a message to the district of what kind of team we can be."

Alrion McKeel led Ferriday with 29 points, while Matthew Smith added 12. Josh Upchurch and Montrell Tennessee netted nine points each.

In the girls contest, Lake Providence led 16-10 after one period and 28-22 at halftime.

The Lady Trojans tied the game at 39-39 after three periods, but came up one point short in the final quarter.

Jasmine Upchurch led Ferriday with 19 points, while Shante Poole and Jasmine Butler added 12 each.
