Aldermen race results in Clayton, Ferriday, Vidalia All five Vidalia incumbent aldermen returned to office on Saturday in the primary election.
In Ferriday, Somer Lance won the District A post vacated by Robin Charpentier, while incumbent Johnnie Brown was re-elected to the District D post.
Ferriday aldermen incumbents Gloria Lloyd of District E and Jerome Harris of District C were unopposed. Elijah "Stepper" Banks was the only candidate to qualify for the District B post held by Glen Henderson, who opted to run for mayor.
Lance defeated Gloria Curry Gross in District A, 169 votes (57%) to 126 (43%). In District D, Brown beat Patricia Ann Martin with 144 votes (60%) to 96 (40%).
In Clayton, five aldermen, including two incumbents, were elected out of a field of seven candidates. Elected to the Clayton Town Council were Sandy Clayton 186 (17%), Floyd Barber, 185 (17%), Willie "Bill" Evans (incumbent) 185 (17%), Carl Ray Thompson, 174 (165), and Irene Jefferson (incumbent), 135 (13%).
Also in the race were incumbents Donna Gray Keith, 117 (11%) and Lola O'Briant, 98 (9%).
In Vidalia, in District 1, incumbent Triand "Tron" McCoy received 229 votes (68%) to defeat Audrey Johnson Gray, 106 votes (32%).
In District 2, incumbent Vernon Stevens garnered 197 votes (58%) to Corinne O. Randazzo's 143 (42%).
In District 3, incumbents Jon D. Betts, Ricky Knapp and Mo Saunders were re-elected in a race that drew four candidates.
Knapp polled 747 votes (30%), Betts 654 (26%), and Saunders, 625 (25%). Kathy Nunnery finished in fourth place with 490 votes (195). |
