Ferriday boys go unbeaten in district

Ferriday High swept a pair of games from Farmerville on Feb. 7, with the boys cruising to an 85-73 win, while the Lady Trojans routed the Lady Farmers, 78-45.

The win by the boys gave the Trojans a perfect mark in district.

"We had some tough teams in district and I didn't know if we could do it," said first-year Ferriday coach K. G. Watkins. "To win in Jonesboro was icing on the cake."

The games against Farmerville were postponed from Feb. 6 because of a tornado in the area.

Ferriday's boys led 27-12 after one period and 44-37 at halftime.

After both teams scored 19 points in the third period, Ferriday outscored Farmerville 22-17 in the final period.

Alrion McKeel led Ferriday with 22 points, while Montrell Tennessee added 17, Levier Pryor 15 and DeMarco Lewis 13.

Ferriday's girls jumped ahead of Farmerville 19-11 after one period, but only led 30-25 at halftime.

The Lady Trojans stormed out in the second half, outscoring Farmerville 23-9 before putting the game away in the final period.

Shanice Poole led Ferriday with 27 points, whie Jasmine Butler added 13 and Jasmine Upchurch 10.

Watkins will now travel to Alexandria where the 2A playoff teams will vote to seed the teams for the playoffs.

"Hopefully we will get in the top 10 and have home games until we get to the quarterfinals in Lafayette," Watkins said.

The first playoff game will probably be Feb. 21.

"Anytime you don't play for 10 days you worry about rust," Watkins said. "We'll try to schedule a game to get the kids ready."
