Ferriday girls host Mamou Ferriday High's girls host Mamou in a Class 2A first round playoff game Thursday at 6 p.m.
Ferriday and Lake Providence finished tied for first place in District 2-2A.
Instead of playing a tiebreaker game to decide the top seed in the district, Class 2A coaches met in Alexandria Tuesday to seed the teams.
Ferriday is seeded No. 7, while Mamou is seeded No. 26.
"I was really worried about where we would be seeded, but I'm pleased we're in the top 10," said Lady Trojan coach Lisa Abron. "But we're very excited and looking forward to the playoffs."
Mamou is seeded No. 26.
"They have two outstanding players one who is a guard and another post player," Abron said. "The guard does most of their ball-handling, but doesn't like a lot of pressure, so that fits right in for us. We'll pressure them. The post player is young. We'll isolate here and try not to let her get many touches."
The winner of Thursday's game will face the winner of the Jeanerette-St. Thomas Aquinas winner on Monday. If Ferriday wins, the Lady Trojans will be the host team.
The top half of the bracket has No. 1 Donaldsonville vs. No 32 Livonia, No. 16 Menard vs. No. 17 Ville Platte, No. 9 Evangel vs. No. 24 Dunham, No. 8 Many vs. No. 25 Pope John Paul, No. 5 Episcopal vs. No. 28 Oakdale, No. 12 Pine Prairie vs. No. 21 Welsh, No. 13 Homer vs. No. 20 Red River and No. 4 Kinder vs. No. 29 Loyola Prep
The bottom half of the bracket has No. 3 St. James vs. No. 30 Jones Hodge, No. 14 French Settlement vs. No. 19 Lakeside, No. 11 East Beauregard vs. No. 22 Doyle, No. 6 John Curtis vs. No. 27 Riverside, No. 7 Ferriday vs. No. 26 Mamou, No. 10 St. Thomas Aquinas vs. No. 23 Jeanerette, No. 15 University vs. No. 18 Lake Providence and No. 2 South Beauregard vs. No. 31 Lake Arthur. |
