Boys playoffs starts Friday Ferriday boys basketball coach K.G. Watkins, Vidalia assistant boys coach Damus Smith and Monterey boys coach Jeffrey Odom were on the road Wednesday to find out who their first round opponents will be in the LHSAA playoffs.
This year, the LHSAA is going to a seeded process in basketball, similar to the power points rating used in football.
"I don't really like it because it can get political," said Vidalia boys coach Robert Sanders, who was unable to make the trip because of an illness. "But it may work out in the long run."
Vidalia, seeded No. 9, will host 24th-seeded Winnfield on Friday.
Ferriday, seeded No. 6, hosts Springfield, seeded No. 27. That game will be played Friday at 7 p.m. at Ferriday.
Monterey, seeded 32nd, visits top-seeded Rapides.

"I don't really like it because it can get political," said Vidalia boys coach Robert Sanders, who was unable to make the trip because of an illness. "But it may work out in the long run."
The final seedings for the games were announced after press time.
Sanders said Vidalia should host a first-round game and that it will be played Friday.
Ferriday should also host a first-round playoff game that will be Thursday or Friday.
Each coach who has a team in the playoffs will vote on how they feel each team should be seeded, excluding their own.
According to kenramsey.com, Vidalia's boys are rated No. 6 in Class 3A behind Port Allen, St. Louis, Wossman, Madison and Richwood and will be hosting a first round playoff game on Friday.
Also according to kenramsey.com, Ferriday is rated as the No. 2 team in Class 2A behind Springhill. St. Thomas Aquinas, whose girls team eliminated Ferriday's girls from the playoffs Monday, is third, followed by Many and Episcopal.
In Class B, Monterey is seeded No. 43, but swept Forest during the regular season to claim the wild card spot in their district. Rapides is No. 1 and Runnels is No. 2.
Vidalia finished in a tie with for first place in District 3-3A with a 66-47 win over Buckeye Friday in Vidalia.
Smith coached the team in Sanders' absence.
Vidalia, which defeated Buckeye 54-52 in Buckeye, led 17-7 after one period and 33-25 at halftime.
After both teams scored 11 points in the third period, Vidalia outscored Buckeye 22-11 in the final period.
Jeremy Randall led the Vikings with 15 points, while Quartrell Thomas added 13 and Gary Stewart 11.
The Vikings defeated Epps 85-71 Tuesday in an extra game to get ready for the playoffs.
Stewart had 25 points, while Randall added 18 and Torrey Dixon 10.
