Ferriday baseball counting on vets
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Ferriday High baseball coach George Barnes is not concerned with his offense. After socring 17 runs in a doubleheader against Pointe Coupee on Saturday, Barnes is more concerned with his defense, which allowed 27 runs.

When you score eight or nine runs, you should win ballgames," Barnes said. "But we are young. We only have three seniors and no juniors. Eventually we will get better."

Sophomore Bobby Madison went 8-for-8 against Pointe Coupee in the 13-8 and 14-9 losses at Ferriday Junior High.

Sophomore Nicco Amardo went 6-for-8, while senior Kendrick Harris, who quarterbacked the football team, was also 6-for-8.

Other seniors on the team are pitcher Starlin Hawkins and Josh Conners.

William Greer is the other sophomore, while freshmen are Davanta Scott, Gary Mays and Marques Lewis.

"Davanta is a super shortstop," Barnes said.

Ferriday hosts Port Gibson on March 8 in their next game.

"We also have some guys out for basketball," Barnes said. "Levier Pryor and DeMarco Lewis are really going to help us when they join the team."
