AG SEIZES FERRIDAY RECORDS; MAYOR SAYS IT'S 'POLITICAL'

Mayor Gene Allen said computer records were retrieved today from Ferriday Town Hall, but said the action was politically motivated. Doors were locked at town hall for two to three hours after the arrival of officials with the Louisiana Attorney General's Office..

WRONGFUL DEATH SUIT FILED AGAINST CONNOR WOOD

The parents of 16-year-old Matthew Whittington have filed a wrongful death suit against the family and estate of the teenager accused of killing their son. Dennis and Judy Whittington of Ferriday filed the suit on February 18th in Seventh Judicial District Court in Vidalia. Connor Wood, 15 at the time of the murders, has been charged in all three homicides.

MAYOR'S RACE IN FERRIDAY; POLICE CHIEF RACE IN VIDALIA

Voters in Ferriday will elect a mayor while voters in Vidalia will elect a police chief in the only elections on tap in Concordia Parish on Saturday. Early voting ended Saturday with 312 votes counted.

TWO FERRIDAY MEN BOOKED IN MURDERS

Two Ferriday men were charged this past week with second degree murder in separate cases. On Thursday, 26-year-old LaFarron DeShon Goodman was booked in the death of a Jackson, Miss., woman, while 19-year-old Donrick L. Washington was charged Sunday in the death of a Jonesville man.

NEW ROADS MAN HELD IN RECENT BURGLARIES

A New Roads man was arrested Friday and charged in connection with several burglaries in the parish. Cornelius J. Kelly, 23, was arrested at Budget Inn in Vidalia after burglarizing Wendy's, Popeye's, Home Hardware and B.J.'s Car Wash in Vidalia hours earlier.

RIBBON-CUTTING SET AT ARCADE THEATRE IN FERRIDAY

Ribbon cutting ceremonies for the Arcade Theater in Ferriday will be held March 12 at the Arcade and Delta Music Museum on Louisiana Avenue. The ribbon cutting ceremony, which will feature Secretary of State Jay Dardenne and Ferriday native Mickey Gilley, will be held at 5 p.m.
