McGlothin elected mayor in Ferriday; Hendricks prevails in Vidalia chief's race Glen McGlothin narrowly won the mayor's race in Ferriday Saturday, pulling 51 percent of the vote, or 753 votes, to incumbent Gene Allen's 49 percent, or 722 votes, according to complete but unofficial returns from the Secretary of State's office.
McGlothin is a former two-term mayor of Ferriday. Allen was first elected mayor four years ago in a tight contest against McGlothin amid allegations of voter fraud.
"I just want to thank the people of Ferriday for electing me to serve as their mayor again," McGlothin told the Sentinel Saturday night.
"I am going to need all of the help I can get from the people of Ferriday," said McGlothin, who will take office July 1. "I can't do anything without the support of the people."
Meanwhile, in Vidalia, Ronnie "Tapper" Hendricks easily outdistanced Bill Hammers in the campaign for police chief.
Hendricks polled 56 percent of the vote, or 892 votes, to 44 percent, or 709 votes, for Hammers. Hammers was the incumbent in the race. |
