Monterey softball wins one at Sulphur

Monterey High's softball team went 1-2 at the Sulphur Tournament Saturday.

The Lady Wolves defeated Vinton 8-5.

Holli Clay struck out five and walked two.

Logan Dale and Taylor Morace each singled twice, while Bailey New tripled. Clay, Ariel Hector and Ellen Bairnsfather each singled.

In its second game, Monterey fell to Merryville 4-2 as Kendral Lipsey had two hits and Brooke Baker, Casey White and Logan Dale each singled.

The Lady Wolves fell to Singer, 4-2 in their final game.

Sara Morgan led Monterey with two hits. Hector, Baker, Dale and Bairnsfather each singled.

Harrisonburg scored four runs in the eighth inning to defeat Monterey 7-4 in Monterey Thursday.

Harrisonburg cored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to send the game into extra innings and then scored four run in the top of the eighth to cap off the come-from-behind win.

Monterey pitcher Holli Clay pitched six shutout innings for the Lady Wolves.

Clay and Taylor Morace had two singles each, while Ellen Bairnsfather tripled.

Monterey goes to Grace Christian Saturday.
