Vidalia wins two at Invitational
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Sunny skies and temperatures way above freezing weren't the only reason

Vidalia High baseball coach Johnny Lee Hoffpauir was smiling Saturday

night.

A week after battling snow flurries and freezing temperatures, the

Vidalia Invitational was played under sunny skies Friday and Saturday

at Vidalia.

Hoffpauir's baseball team put together two of its best outings this

season as the Vikings beat Minden 4-2 before downing Franklin Parish

6-4 in the Vidalia Invitational.

It has been an eventful few days for Hoffpauir, whose mother passed

away on March 11. On Monday, Hoffpauir became a grandfather for the

first time Monday as son Josh and his wife Khara welcomed Zach

Hoffpauir into the world in Hattiesburg.

"Last week was a real hard week, so it was nice that the team played so

well," Hoffpauir said. "It was a great tournament and once again I

thank everyone who contributed."

Vidalia scored three runs in the top of the sixth to defeat Minden.

Seth Thompson picked up the win for the Vikings.

John Brixey and Beau Doughty doubled for Vidalia, while Cameron Boyette

singled.

In the win over Franklin Parish, Vidalia scored two runs in the fourth

inning to pull out the win.

Mason Ozburn was the winning pitcher for the Vikings.

Hunter Martin collected three hits for Vidalia, while Ozburn and Trey

Barnes both doubled.

It was good news and bad news for Hoffpauir on Monday.

During the day, Hoffpauir and his wife Pam became grandparents for the

first time Monday as son Josh and his wife Khara welcomed Zach

Hoffpauir into the world in Hattiesburg.

Later that day, his Vidalia team lost to Bunkie 9-3 in its District

3-3A opener in Bunkie. Vidalia hosts Marksville on Thursday.
