Lady Vikings drop first district game Vidalia High's softball team dropped its first District 3-3A contest Monday as the Lady Vikings fell to Buckeye 3-0.
The Lady Panthers, who were beaten by Vidalia in their first meeting, scored all three of their runs in the fifth inning.
Buckeye pitcher T. Deville held the Lady Vikings without a hit in the game.
Vidalia had four errors in the contest.
"You can't win like that," said Vidalia coach Jeannie Hall. "Buckeye is a good team and that they were going to play hard against us. Their pitcher did a great job at keeping us off balanced and guessing. We put the ball in play, but their defense did an excellent job yesterday."
The Lady Vikings were 5-0 going into Buckeye after blanking Marksville 5-0 in Vidalia Thursday.
Kassi Randall led the Lady Vikings with four hits in four at-bats. Chelsie McElwee was 3-for-3, while Eryn Secrest and Alaina Burns had three hits in four at-bats.
Mary Katherine Golden had two hits, driving in two runs.
Chelsea Warren, Katlyn Wilson, Tori Lemoine, Mary Sanders and Dara Fauver each singled, while Brittney Evans had an RBI.
Brittany Whittington was the winning pitcher.
"We jumped on them pretty early, so some of the junior varsity girls got a couple of at-bats," said Vidalia coach Jeannie Hall.
"We played with confidence and hit the ball well. "
Vidalia hosts its annual tournament Friday and Saturday with 11 teams competing. |
