Story Archives: Shively shines for Monterey

Shively shines for Monterey
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
It's been the Beau Shively Show at Monterey the past week as the Monterey senior has picked up two wins, including a no-hitter in the Wolves' District 3B opener against Epps Tuesday in Monterey.

Shively homered and had two singles while pitching Monterey to a 6-4 win over Block Thursday in Jonesville.

"That was a big win for us," Shively said. "That really turned things around for us this season. The defense really helped me out. I didn't really dominate, they just caught everything behind me."

Shively's two-run home run in the third inning provided the first runs of the game. It was his first-ever round-tripper.

Block answered with three runs in the third inning before Montery scored two in the fourth.

On Tuesday, Shively kept Epps without a hit while striking out four as the Wolves rolled to a 17-0 district win.

"I'm just concentrating more," Shively said. "My curve ball was working and I only had to go three innings."

It was his second no-hitter at Monterey, keeping Spearsville without a hit last year.

Shively also went 2-for-2 with a triple and three runs batted in.

Monterey scored 12 runs in the bottom of the first inning and five more runs in the bottom of the second.

Ross Lipsey had a double for the Wolves.

Monterey hosts Forest Thursday.
