Concordia jobless rate 6% in February
Concordia's jobless rate stood at 6 percent in February, according to statistics released by the Louisiana Department of Labor.
Concordia's had 6,879 residents in the work force in February with 440 out of work.
In neighboring parishes, Catahoula's jobless rate was 5.3 percent (3,931 with jobs, 218 without); Franklin, 6.2 percent (7,237 with jobs, 476 without), and Tensas, 7.2 percent (2,049 with jobs, 160 without).
Seasonally adjusted nonfarm jobs in Louisiana grew by 34,000 workers between February 2007 and February 2008, bringing the total number of jobs in the state to 1,939,100, the Louisiana Department of Labor announced today.
Louisiana's unemployment rate for February 2008 was 3.7 percent, down from the January 2008 revised rate of 4.0 and a slight decrease from the February 2007 rate of 3.8 percent. The February 2008 unemployment rate for the United States was 4.8, a decrease from the month-ago figure of 4.9 percent.
Louisiana's civilian labor force – the number of people working or looking for work – for February 2008 was 2,007,968, down from 2,012,256 revised for January 2008. The number of employed in February was 1,932,713, a slight increase from 1,932,574 for January. The number of unemployed in Louisiana for February 2008 dropped to 75,255 from 79,682 for the previous month.
Unadjusted unemployment rates compare parishes and metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) to the state. The February 2008 unadjusted unemployment rate for Louisiana was 3.5 percent, down from the revised January 2008 rate of 4.6 percent. The unemployment rates for the MSAs were: Alexandria, 3.5 percent, down from 4.5 percent in January 2008; Baton Rouge, 3.4 percent, down from 4.5; Houma, 2.5, down from 3.4; Lafayette, 2.6, down from 3.4; Lake Charles, 3.6, down from 4.8; Monroe, 3.9, down from 5.2; New Orleans, 3.1, down from 4.1; and Shreveport-Bossier City, 4.1, down from 5.2. Lafayette, Lafourche and Terrebonne Parishes had the lowest unemployment rate of 2.5 percent in February 2008, while West Carroll Parish had the highest rate of 9.8 percent.
Preliminary seasonally adjusted statewide total nonfarm employment for February 2008 was 1,939,100 compared to 1,938,800 for the revised January 2008 figure, an increase of 300 jobs over the month. The sector breakdown was as follows: natural resources and mining, 51,300 employed in February 2008, down from 51,500 in January 2008; construction, 137,100, up from 136,500; manufacturing, 159,300, down from 159,700; trade, transportation, and utilities, 383,700, down from 384,000; information, 26,500, up 100 from the previous month; financial activities, 97,200, up from 96,800; professional and business services, 202,200, down from 202,500; educational and health services, 250,800, up from 250,200; leisure and hospitality, 199,200, down from 199,300; other services, 67,900, down 100; and government, 363,900, unchanged over the month. |
