Vidalia's Lady Vikings fell to Buckeye 5-3 Tuesday in a contest to decide second place in District 3-3A.

The Lady Vikings (16-10) should get into the playoffs as a wild card. Vidalia was ranked No. 15 in the power ratings before Tuesday's game. Thirty-two teams will be seeded by Class 3A coaches Friday in Alexandria.

"I hate we took it out of our hands and put it into somebody else's hands by not winning Tuesday," said Vidalia coach Jeannie Hall. "We split with (district champion) Bunkie this year and have been in every game we've played, with most of them in district coming down to one or two plays. It could have gone either way in a lot of those games."

Vidalia scored first against Buckeye, pusing two runs across the plate in the second inning. Buckeye tied the game in th third inning and went ahead 4-2 in the fifth.

The Lady Panthers had 14 hits, to four for Vidalia, including a double by Chelsie McElwee.

"We played good defense," Hall said. "To be outhit 14-4 and only get beat 5-3 tells you something."

Vidalia set up the tiebreaker game by defeating Marksville 12-2 on Monday in Marksville.

Vidalia (16-10) scored three runs in the top of the second inning.

runs in the top of the second inning. The Lady Vikings then took command of the game with an eight-run outburst in the top of the third inning.

Chesie McElwee led Vidalia with two doubles and a single. Kassi Randall tripled and doubled, while Tori Lemoine had two doubles.

Chelsea Warren doubled and singled, while Mary Katherine Golden and Brittany Evans singled twice. Eryn Secrest also doubled.

On Thursday, the Lady Vikings started out strong, but Bunkie High finished stronger as the Lady Panthers denied Vidalia a district championship with an 8-5 nine-inning win in Vidalia.

McElwee led off with a walk, Randall reached on an error and another throwing error scored McElwee.

Warren walked and Katlyn Wilson drilled a line drive over the left fielder's head with two outs to put the Lady Vikings up 3-0.

McElwee was stranded at second base after reaching on an error in the second inning.

Britanny Whittington struck out four Bunkie batters over the first two innings before the Lady Panthers put two runs on the board in the top of the third.

Vidalia added runs in the third and fourth innings to go up 5-2, but the Lady Panthers scored three in the fifth to tie the game at 5-5.

Neither team scored in the eighth inning, but Bunkie pushed three runs across in the top of the ninth and help Vidalia without a run in the bottom of the inning to get the win.

Vidalia hosts Block on Thursday in its final game on Senior Day.
