• LOSING MATTHEW: PARENTS HOPE ADULTS LEARN LESSON FROM SON'S DEATH

There may be many lessons in the tragic murder last year of Matthew Whittington, and John and Geraldine Wood. Whittington's mother, Judy, hopes people learn the necessity of locking away fire arms.

• FERRIDAY MAN CHARGED IN INFANT SON'S DEATH

A $180,000 bond was set this week by Judge Kathy Johnson for a man accused of murdering his six-week-old son.

• VIDALIA LAND PURCHASE ON TAP

The Vidalia Recreation No. 3 Board of Directors will finalize plans Monday on the purchase of land for a new recreational complex.

• STUDENT LEAP SCORES IMPROVE IN CONCORDIA

Concordia's public school eighth and fourth graders showed improvement parishwide on the state's LEAP exams.
