Lady Hound netters second at State

Huntington's girls tennis team finished second at the South A State Tournament held at Duncan Park in Natchez last week.

"Our teams really played well," said Huntington tennis coach Emily Guida. "It was fun to bring home a trophy again."

Huntington's girls finished second to Franklin Academy, which totaled 11.5 points. The Lady Hounds had 10 points,

Laurel Christian won the boys championship with 14 points. Wilkinson County Christian Academy was second at 12.5.

Huntington's mixed doubles team of Julie Moak and Seth Swilley defeated WCCA's Allie Fontenot and Justin Davis 6-2, 7-5 to win the South State championship.

Moak and Swillie beat Mary Kathryn Enterkin and Luke Morgan of Laurel Christian 6-4, 7-5 to reach the finals.

Abbey Ashmore and Allie Boothe advanced to the finals in No. 2 girls doubles championship, defeating beat Emory Dukes and Morgan Westmoreland of Tallulah 6-3, 6-3 to reach the finals.

Ashmore and Boothe lost to Franklin's Shelby Kiper and Katelyn Leonard 6-1, 6-2 in the finals, but will still advance to the State Tournament.

The State Tournament is being played today (Wednesday) in Jackson.

In No. 1 girls singles, Emilee Johns lost in the semis to Tiffany Hudson of Wayne, 6-1, 6-2. 

Lacey Willard, competing in No. 2 girls singles, lost in the semis to Hannah Scroggs of Glenbrook 6-0, 6-2.

Tensas Academy's No. 1 girls doubles team of Jordan Leake and Ish Crigler defeated Hannah People and Abby McMillan of Newton Academy for the South State title to advance to Jackson.
