• BUSINESS BOOMING IN VIDALIA

There may be a business slump in much of the country, but not in Vidalia. The building boom continues as about a dozen new companies will soon open their doors from one end of town to the other. Vidalia Mayor Hyram Copeland credits the four-laning of Hwy. 61 South to Baton Rouge and Hwy. 15 from the I-20 at Rayville to Vidalia for much of the growth.

• $126 MILLION SOUGHT IN LAKE ST. JOHN OIL FIELD CASE

Lawyers for Tensas Poppodoc, which owns property at Lake St. John, is asking a Concordia Parish jury for $126 million to clean up a portion of that property which it says was contaminated by Chevron and other oil companies over the past six decades.

• ACCIDENTS CLAIM THREE LIVES HERE

Three people were killed during the past week in traffic accidents in Concordia Parish, according to law enforcement agencies.

• MEMORIAL DAY PARADE, CLOSURES TOLD

The annual Miss-Lou Memorial Day Parade from Vidalia to the Natchez City Cemetery will highlight Memorial Day weekend on Monday.

• FOUR RIVERS FOR ALL VETERANS PROGRAM IN JONESVILLE

Four Rivers For All Veterans will host its annual Memorial Program on Sunday, May 25, 2 PM at Block High School Auditorium in Jonesville.

• CPSO STEPS UP HIGHWAY, LAKE PATROLS FOR HOLIDAY

As Americans pause this weekend to remember our nation's fallen heroes who died while serving their country, the Concordia Parish Sheriff's Office will intensify both highway and lake patrols, beginning Friday, May 23, through Monday night, May 26.
