IN TODAY'S SENTINEL -- WEDNESDAY, MAY 28, 2008 • PAY RAISES PROPOSED FOR VIDALA OFFICIALS, EMPLOYEES
The Vidalia Town Council -- on a 3-2 vote -- agreed Tuesday night to prefile an ordinance boosting salaries for the mayor, aldermen and city employees. The pay raises proposed will lift Mayor Hyram Copeland's annual salary from $53,500 to $69,500; the police chief from $44,900 to $55,000 annually; aldermen from $250 to $600 monthly; and includes an across the board three percent raise for town employees.
• FERRIDAY MAYOR VEGAS-BOUND FOR BEAUTY PAGEANT
Thanks to two aldermen, Ferriday taxpayers will foot the bill for Mayor Gene Allen's plane ride to Las Vegas, Nev., next month for a beauty pageant.
• LAMARR WITHDRAWS BID FOR GYM WORK
Ferrday Mayor Gene Allen said during a special meeting Tuesday that Lamarr Construction has withdrawn its bid to renovate the Florida Street gym.
• POLICE JURY REVISED BUDGET TOTALS $8.4 MILLION
The Concordia Parish Police Jury approved a revised 2008 budget of $8.4 million during its regular monthly meeting Monday night. |
