Ferriday town workers get pay hike; $500 raise for aldermen falls flat
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Ferriday Town Council granted a six percent pay raise for city employees Tuesday night, but balked at Johnnie Brown's suggestion that aldermen hike their pay by $500 a month.

The council amended its 2008-09 budget during a public hearing at Tuesday's meeting, reflecting revenue of $2,494,800, expenditures of $2,406,650, and a surplus of $88,150.

Mayor Gene Allen, in his final regular meeting in his current term, said inflation is 6-to-12 percent and employees are having to deal with rising gas costs.
