• KENNETH HEDRICK CHOICE FOR FERRIDAY POLICE CHIEF

Ferriday Mayor-elect Glen McGlothin said today (Wednesday) that he will appoint Kenneth Hedrick of Ferriday as the new police chief.

• MUNICIPAL OFFICIALS BEGIN FOUR-YEAR TERMS TUESDAY

Municipal officials in Ferriday, Vidalia and Clayton will begin four-year terms on Tuesday, July 1.

• DESPITE COURT VICTORIES, DOTD HAS YET TO PAY WADE BROTHERS

Although the brothers Jimmy and David Wade of Wildsville have won another court victory in their fight with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), they have yet to see the money the courts say they are due.

• FOUR-MILL TAX TO BE CALLED FOR COUNCIL ON AGING

The Concordia Parish Police Jury agreed to call an election this fall on behalf of the Concordia Council on Aging (CCOA) for voters to consider a four-mill tax. The tax would generate about $400,000 a year and enable CCOA to offset skyrocketing costs and increased demand for services to a growing population of 60 and older residents in Concordia Parish.

• LAWMAKERS HAIL TAX CUTS

State Sen. Neil Riser said the defining achievement of the 2008 regular legislative session was approval of some $300-million in tax cuts for state income tax filers.
