• VIDALIA BUYS LAND FOR RECREATIONAL COMPLEX

Mayor Hyram Copeland said today (Wednesday) that the City of Vidalia has purchased 30 acres of property behind Wal-Mart for a recreational complex.

• QUALIFYING FOR OFFICES SET LOCALLY JULY 9-11

Local candidates for judge, district attorney, justice of the peace and constable in Concordia Parish will be qualifying next week -- July 9-11.

• FLOTILLA, INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS THIS WEEKEND

Americans will celebrate the country's 232nd birthday on Friday and the 16th annual flotilla on Lake St. John will be held on Saturday.

• LIBRARY TAX RENEWAL ON JULY 19TH BALLOT

Concordia voters will go to the polls July 19th to decide whether to renew a 10-year, 8.5-mill property tax for the Concordia Parish Library.

• MAYORS, ALDERMEN, POLICE CHIEFS TAKE OFFICE TUESDAY

Elected municipal officials in Ferriday, Vidalia and Clayton took their oaths of office Tuesday in a series of ceremonies that spanned much of the day.
