Hoffpauir hiting .300

Jarrett Hoffpauir of Vidalia went 3-for-4 with two doubles Tuesday in the Memphis Redbirds' 5-1 loss to Nashville to push his batting average to .301 on the season.

Hoffpauir was placed on the St. Louis Cardinals' 40-man roster last year and competed with the major league team in spring training.

Hoffpauir got in a few at-bats, getting a base hit against the Washington Nationals, while also drawing a walk in a win against Florida.

Hoffpauir was optioned to Memphis, but not before being called into St. Louis Manager Tony LaRussa's office where the Cardinal manager told him he liked his intensity and his appearance at the plate.

Hoffpauir had a hot season at the plate in 2007. After a .345 average in 61 games for Springfield, he was promoted to Memphis and hit .300 in 55 games.

Hoffpauir played in the prestigious Arizona Fall League last month, competing with the Mesa Solar Sox.

The Cardinals drafted the 192-pound Hoffpauir from Southern Mississippi in the sixth round in 2004.
