If it's July it must be Dixie Youth All-Star tournament time.

Franklin Parish hosted the Pitching Machine Tournament and is playing host to the Minor League and Major League sub-district tournaments.

Vidalia's Minor League All-Star team defeated Ferriday 5-3 Tuesday in Winnsboro to advance to the District 5 sub-district championship game.

Vidalia faces Winnsboro today (Wednesday) at 6 p.m.

Winnsboro will have to beat Vidalia twice as Vidalia is the lone unbeaten team in the tournament.

The Vidalia team has clinched a spot in the district tournament in Monroe, which begins Saturday.

In the win over Winnsboro Tuesday, Pate Shirley had a 3-run home run in the fifth inning.

Chandler Grayson got the win, pitching four innings.

Ferriday had two runners on base in the sixth inning with two outs before the final out was retired.

The Vidalia 9-10-year-old All-Stars beat South Franklin 23-4 Saturday in the opening game of the sub-district tournament.

Shirley and Cole Cangemi pitched two innings each for Vidalia while Tyler Cothern, Cangemi and Nathan Knapp had multiple hits in the victory.

Cangemi's single in the bottom of the sixth inning gave Vidalia a 15-14 win over Winnsboro Sunday.

With the game tied at 14-14 going into the bottom of the sixth, Vidalia loaded the bases with one out and Cangemi lined a shot to right field to give Vidalia the win. Cangemi also singled and had a three-run home run, while pitching three innings.

Grayson, Cangemi and Knapp each doubled.

Ferriday advanced in the winner's bracket with wins over South Franklin 17-3 and Catahoula 18-3. Ferriday's other loss was to Winnsboro.

Vidalia faces Catahoula today (Wednesday) at 8 p.m.

South Franklin and Winnsboro are 2-0 in the tournament.

Ferriday's Major League All-Stars lost to South Franklin 3-1 after losing to Vidalia. Ferriday fell to Winnsboro in its other contest.
