Barron low bidder for bathroom renovations in schools
A Farmerville contractor was the low bidder at $1,587,000 for Phase 2 bathroom renovation work for schools throughout the parish.
Don Barron's bid and two others were opened during the Concordia Parish School Board's regular meeting Thursday night.
Edgin Construction of Natchez bid $1,640,000 for the job and Wilmar Construction of Vidalia bid $1,670,000.
Business Manager Tom O'Neal said the estimated cost for the work was $1.85 million. The board agreed to let the board's architect and O'Neal review Barron's bid and accept it if all specifications are met.
The board also voted to wait until October to consider a pay raise for board members. Raymond Riley offered a motion to raise board members $275 per month to up their monthly pay to $625. He said that would put board member compensation in line with the state average.
But before a vote was taken on his motion, Fred Butcher offered an amendment asking that the raise issue be tabled for now and put back on the agenda in October. Butcher's amendment passed.
Riley said that whether the raise passed or failed wouldn't matter.
"It's not going to stop us from doing our job," he said.
In other business, the board approved the payment of invoices for the month of June totaling $3,406,723 and named The Concordia Sentinel as official journal.
