Library tax renewal passes big parishwide

Concordia voters overwhelmingly approved an 8.5-mill library tax renewal on Saturday with 1,158 voters supporting the tax (89 percent) and only 147 voting against (11 percent).

The tax, renewed for 10 years, generates about $850,000 per year for maintenance, repair, improvements, operations and other areas of support for the library system parishwide.

Clerk of Court Clyde Ray Webber said only about 10 percent of the parish's registered voters cast ballots in the election.

Library Board President Bobbie Calhoun said the board and staff appreciate each person who took the time to vote.

"Every vote counts and each citizen matters to our library system," she said. "We all look forward to serving the public for the next 10 years."
