Vidalia native named Concordia Economic Director

Vidalia native Heather Lanius Malone has been selected as director of the Concordia Parish Economic Development District.

"I'm very excited," Malone said. "I can't wait to begin work."

Malone is expected to start her work on September 1.

"We had a lot of good applicants," said Concordia Economic Development Chairman Richard Young. "The fact Heather is from here played a great deal. She will be looking after businesses in the parish and discussing business affairs, trying to see what the parish needs as far as economic development in this region."

Also on the board are Vidalia Mayor Hyram Copeland, Ferriday Mayor Glen McGlothin, Clayton Mayor Rydell Turner, Ridgecrest Mayor Michael Roberts, Sue Grayson and Carl Dangerfield.

Malone, the daughter of Tommy and Shelia Lanius, graduated from Vidalia High in 1998.

She attended Louisiana Tech where she received a Master of Arts in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She will soon graduate from the South Carolina School for Economic Development.

Malone began work at the Greater Beaufort-Hilton Head Economic Partnership, Inc., dba Lowcountry Economic Network in Beaufort, S.C. in September 2004.

She was the Director of Marketing & Membership where among many duties she managed the re-branding process for the organization and created a five-tiered membership plan for the organization.

Malone was also an Interim Office Manager for Driggers & Blackwell Personnel, Inc., of Ruston and worked as a student intern at Overton Brooks V.A. Medical Center in Shreveport,.

Before moving away, Malone worked at the Vidalia City Court as an Assistant Clerk of Court from Aug. 1997-98.

Malone's husband, Matt, is from Petal, Miss., and graduated from Forest High.

"We had talked about moving closer to home when we start having a family, and I found out about this job on a recent visit home," Malone said. "I applied for it and everything came together."

Malone said she is looking forward to working with the parish economic board.

"I am going to have to re-familiarize myself with all the different organizations in the parish and talk to the board and see what direction they want to go in and go from there," she said. "I know we definitely need to do some marketing, and that's my background the past few years. I want to go out and meet all the local, regional and state players. I am excited about coming back home. A lot has changed. Whenever I got the chance to talk with Mayor Copeland I realized there are a lot of great things going on in the parish as a whole. It's very exciting."

Malone said the economic board was "very aggressive about wanting to get things done and it's nice to know I am going to have their support. I'm going to give 110 percent every day, that's the way I was raised."

Malone said her four years with the Lowcountry Economic Network will be beneficial in her new job.

"I see a lot of similarities with each place," she said. "I'm going to bring some of those ideas here."
