• INTEREST GROWING IN CONCORDIA AIRPORT AFTER $2 MILLION IN UPGRADES

Almost $2 million dollars have been spent to upgrade the Concordia Parish Airport near Vidalia in recent years giving the facility not only a face-lift, but also modernizing all facets of the operation.

• THREE ALDERMEN PUSHING FOR BINGO IN FERRIDAY DESPITE OPPOSITION

Although the idea of bringing bingo to Ferriday drew strong opposition at a public hearing on July 22, three members of the Ferriday Town Council have called a special meeting Thursday to push the matter again.

Joshua Calkins of Parhams has always had a love of fire engines. So when the tug boat pilot, who serves as a volunteer fire fighter in Parhams, Monterey and Jonesville, saw a 1987 fire truck that was part of the rescue scene at the World Trade Centers in 2001 for sale on e-bay, he decided he wanted to buy it.

Anthony Palermo has been hired as the new principal at Huntington in Ferriday.

• SEWER ISSUES TOP POLICE JURY AGENDA

The Concordia Parish Police Jury has declared an emergency on two roads and gave a contractor until August 8 to perform the repair work. Portions of the Moose Lodge Road and Eagle Road were damaged during work on a sewer project.
