Story Archives: Trinity traveling to Alabama for opener

Trinity traveling to Alabama for opener
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Trinity Episcopal School will travel to Toxie, Al., on August 22 for its season-opener against Alabama's defending Alabama Independent School Association Class A state champion.

South Choctaw Academy finished 13-0 last year and is ranked No. 7 in the overall AISA preseason poll.

Trinity was left with an open date for the season-opener this year when Tensas Academy opted to play 8-man football because of low numbers. Trinity was scheduled to open against the Chiefs.

"I literally called every school in Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas and then called Alabama," said Trinity coach David King. "I called every public school I could but the problem there is that they start later than we do."

The contest in Toxie is scheduled for 7 p.m.

"We'll leave early Friday morning and stop in Laurel for a break," King said. "The kids are excited because we are playing someone new. I haven't seen the films on them yet, so I may not be too excited."
