Updating Faircloth team A few years ago when we both had more hair — OK, his was already fading - I unveiled an All-Dee Faircloth team.
The year was 1994. It was just after Faircloth's 25th year of coaching. Now he is hitting 40. Obviously, there needs to be some updating.
As I stated some 14 years ago, Coach Faircloth had nothing to do with this team. I'll take all the heat.
If somebody is named on offense, they will not be named on defense and vice-versa.
At quarterback I have to update the list with Tony Hawkins Jr.
Tony led the Vikings to the state semifinals and demanded so much of his teammates that they had to step up their games, as well.
Honorable mentions are Johnny Lee, Josh and Jarrett Hoffpauir, Brett Hinson, Scott St. Clergy and Raleston Brown.
Jackie Johnston, you were right on the edge. Of course I know that's not the first time you've heard that statement.
The backfield ` consists of Keith Woodside and Eddie Ray Jackson as the tailbacks. Gene Brashier is the fullback.
Honorable mentions are Michael Randall, Gene Brashier, Dariel Mays, Joe Ray Hooker, Rochel Hargrave and Demack Bates at tailback and Chris Williams at fullback.
Offensive linemen are Lewis Wiggins, Bernie Cooley, Jordy Temple, Gary Paul Parnham and Gary Waller. Honorable mentions are Kevin Arrington, Thad Campbell, Gary Higgs, Michael Pace, Al Harrell, Ricky Merritt, Jeff Harrell, Matthew Probst and Brad Burget.
Tight end is Tommy Milligan. Honorable mention is Ricky Bruce
Wide receivers are Tony Hawkins Sr. and Glen Henry.
Honorable mentions are Glen Randall, C.J. Williams and Melvin Warner.
On defense, the tackles are Matt Hinson and Marty Probst.
Honorable mentions are Ronnie Carpenter, Ray Smith, Triand McCoy, David Cooley, Sam Claiborne and Joe Bell.
Defensive end are Otis Fair and Robbie Savant. Honorable mentions are Alan Ensminger and Tommy Milligan.
Cory Hudson, Chase Clayton and Steven Cooper.
I have to go with six linebackers because for a long time Vidalia was known at Linebacker U. They are Bill Moseley, George Cupit, Eric Whitley, Brian Bradford, David Hueing and Lee Bailey. Boy, I tell you what - I'll put that group against any school, any size in any state. Never mind the "Steel Curtain," that's a "Steel Wall."
Honorable mentions are Jerome Keys, Justin Seals, Hannibal Yearby, Donald Moseley, Glen Cupit and Tommy Savant.
Defensive backs are Michael Bell, Gary Byargeon, Joe Dallalio
Honorable mentions are Ronnie Morales, Richard Criswell, Van Thompson, Raymond Cage and Jason Dupre.´
Chuck DeWeese is the punter, with Marty Probst being honorable metion. Brett Hinson is the kicker.
Obviously, I'm sure I missed a few and you could easily swap out a couple. But it's my list.
Drop me a line to promote someone left out and maybe I can get them in for the 30th anniversary team.
I'll make sure Faircloth doesn't go anywhere until then. |
