Ottie Parker Barnette
Funeral services for Ottie Parker Barnette, 94, of Monterey will be held at Monterey First Baptist Church on Thursday, August 14, 2008, at 10 a.m.
Burial will follow at Monterey Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends today, Wednesday, August 13, 2008, 5 to 7 p.m. at Young's in Ferriday.
Mrs. Barnette, a 45-year resident of Monterey, and member of Monterey Baptist Church, died of natural causes August 8, 2008, at Camelot Leisure Living in Ferriday.
Born in Clarks, LA, she moved with her husband, J.B. Barnette, to Monterey in the early 1960's. An avid fisher, Mrs. Barnette lived at Kemp's Landing on Cocodrie Bayou in Monterey. She fished daily twice a day except for Sunday's and was an active member of the church. She also enjoyed crochet and needlepoint and spent countless hours making patchwork quilts for friends and family members as well as embroidered pillowcases.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.B. Barnette; daughter, June Simpson; and son-in-law, W.D. Simpson Jr.
Survivors include grandsons, David Simpson and wife, Ann, of Muncie, IN, and Chuck Simpson and wife, Diane, of Glenburnie, MD; great-grandchildren, Rebekah and Rachel Simpson, and Jacob and Justin Simpson.
