PHOTO -- Jake and Mary King, Grandparents of JoeEd Edwards
The grandparents of Joe "JoeEd" Edwards -- Mary & Jake King -- are shown in this 1972 photo with two of their great-grandchildren. JoeEd, a porter at the Shamrock Motel in Vidalia, lived with the Kings when he was abducted and killed in July 1964 by the Ku Klux Klan. Family members say deputies came to the King home after JoeEd's disappearance and warned them not to speak to the FBI and that deputies confiscated photos of JoeEd. FBI agents visited with the couple but family members say the Kings were too frightened to provide agents with much information. They died not knowing what happened to their grandson, although there were many gruesome rumors at the time as to his fate. (Photo: Concordia Sentinel/Julia Dobbins) |
