Trinity looks to return to playoffs After advancing to the South AA State championship game last year, Trinity Episcopal head coach David King will be counting on several newcomers to get back there in 2008.
"We're real young," King said. "We have a lot of holes to fill. We've got a lot of good athletes and we're going to have a decent team. But you are going to have growing pains when you play people like Centreville."
King has a big void at quarterback where Parker Brumfield passed for almost 2,000 yards last year.
Senior Jackson Bryant (6-0, 165) and sophomore Givonni Dent (5-10, 160) are looking to step behind center.
Junior Chas Moroney (5-10, 160) and senior Wells Middleton (6-0, 170) are the top receivers.
"Our seniors made their mark here," King said. "We have some young kids filling big holes."
Junior R.J. Fleming (5-11, 170) returns in the backfield after a banner season rushing and returning kicks.
"R.J. can be as good as anybody I have coached, including Steven Ridley," King said.
Sophomore Kent King (5-10. 155) and junior Jordan Dossett (5-11, 170) are also in the backfield.
Senior Larry Calcote (6-3, 275) is the top lineman.
"Northwestern and Southern Miss really like him," Calcote said. "He had a good year last year."
Other seniors are Andrew Johson, Chase Cauthen, Bryant Pearson and Bajinder Singh.
Matthew Rymer and Matthew Vines are juniors. |
