Beesley counting on seniors With seven returning starters on offense and five on defense, Cathedral High head football coach Craig Beesley has high hopes for finishing with his first winning season after going 4-7 as a rookie head coach last year.
"We've got a good group of seniors and good leadership," Beesley said. "Hopefully we can stay healthy. We started out 1-3 last year and could have easily been 4-0, but couldn't make some plays. We need to make those plays this year."
Preston Edwards (6-1, 185) returns at quarterback for his senior season after passing for 1,257 yards last season.
"We hope to do more running this year," Beesley said. "Last year teams were dropping people back in coverage. We've got all but one lineman back, so if we can establish a running game it will help open the passing game more."
In the backfield are seniors Jeb White (6-2, 180), Kole Junkin (6-1, 180) and Daniel Jenkins (6-0. 170).
Junior Aaron White (5-10, 170) and freshman Daniel Huffines (5-5, 130) will be at the wide receiver positions.
The offensive line consists of senior Harrison Burns (5-9, 220), senior William Wilson (6-0, 240), junior Michael Roboski (6-2, 225), senior Josh Gamberi (6-2, 180) and senior Stowers Mohon (6-3, 240).
Mohon had 102 tackles last year.
"Stowers is looking real good," Beesley said. "He worked real hard this summer."
The defensive line will consist of Gamberi, White, junior Clint Ray (6-0, 220) and Mohon.
Junkin, junior Jordan Hunt (5-6, 150) and junior Elliot McCann (5-8, 175) are the linebackers.
The defensive backfield consists of senior Zac Arnold (5-10, 170), junior Dylan White (5-9, 160), Edwards and junior Semmes White (5-7, 150).
Burns will handle the kicking duties, while Edwards is the punter.
Others seeing action include Hunter Foster, Cameron Horton, Adam Kaiser, Jadareus Ealy and Scott Turner. |
