Trinity wins at Alabama
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Trinity Episcopal head coach David King did not want to start the season with an open date after Tensas Academy moved to 8-man football before the season.

So King was left with a long trip to Alabama to face the Alabama Independent School Association Class A defending champion.

No problem.

Trinity, which lost out to Centreville in the Class 2A semifinals last year, defeated South Choctaw Academy 30-13 in the season-opener for both teams.

South Choctaw was ranked No. 7 among private schools in Alabama.

Givonni Dent tossed a 33-yard scoring pass to R.J. Fleming and 16-yard pass to Wells Middleton to give the Saints a 12-0 lead.

Kent King caught an 8-yard touchdown pass, returned a punt 68 yards for a score and scored on a 7-yard run.

in the third quarter.

Matt Phillips scored both touchdowns for South Choctaw on runs of 11 yards in the second quarter and 1 yard early in the fourth quarter.

Trinity Episcopal (1-0) plays at Adams County Christian Friday at 7 p.m.
