Vidalia, Jena tie in scrimmage Vidalia High and Jena played to a 6-6 tie in a scrimmage at Jena High Thursday as the Vikings had several big plays called back because of penalties.
The lone score for the Vikings came on a 63-yard touchdown run by Kevin Johnson after the game stayed 0-0 for a long time.
Jena, riding the arm of junior quarterback Beau Jones, got on the scoreboard late in the scrimmage.
There was no scoring in the junior varsity scrimmages.
"I saw some good things and bad things," said Vidalia coach Dee Faircloth. "We've got to get in working shape. There's a difference between running shape and working shape. Working shape is getting on and off the ground."
Faircloth said the scrimmage was the first competition for a lot of his players.
"We needed that," he said. "We probably won't have our lineup set until about the second week. I thought it worked out good and we saw a lot of things we need to work on. Going in the gym is like not getting to practice at all and we've spent a lot of time there because of the rain. We really need to work on our timing."
Vidalia hosts its annual jamboree Saturday at 7 p.m. Admission is $5.
Block faces Tensas Parish for two 12-minute quarters, before Vidalia takes the field against Delhi Charter.
Admission is $5. |
