Hoffpauir ends season, Bowden called up Jarrett Hoffpauir of Vidalia finished his second season at Memphis, batting .273 with four home runs.
Hoffpauir, battling a foot injury the final part of the season, finished with 112 hits. He had 31 doubles, walked 49 times and had 45 strikeouts.
Hoffpauir worked out in the spring with the St. Louis Cardinals before returning to the Major League team's Class A squad.
Meanwhile, Barry Bowden of Vidalia, who signed with the Kansas City Royals Class A franchise team in Burlington, was called up to the Burlington Bees, the high A team of the Kansas City Royals. Bowden finished with a 3-2 record and 1.86 earned run average with the Burlington Royals. He had 40 strikeouts over 29 innings. The Burlington Bees are currently involved in the playoffs.
Hoffpauir and Bowden both had outstanding collegiate careers at the University of Southern Mississippi.
Hoffpauir left after his junior season, while Bowden was USM's top pitcher as a senior this past season. |
