Benoist named top SEC player Vanderbilt's upset win over South Carolina on Thursday made more than a few people smile, especially in the Miss-Lou.
Vanderbilt linebacker Patrick Benoist, a 6-foot, 222-pound junior from Southlake, Texas was named Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week after the upset win.
Benoist's father, Glenn, played football at Trinity Episcopal High and South-Natchez Adams High School. His uncle, Paul Benoist, lives in Natchez and has a law office in Vidalia.
Patrick's grandparents are Judge and Mrs. Edwin Benoist of Natchez (deceased) and Ron and Dianne Shupe, who still live in Natchez.
Benoist turned in a career-best performance in Vanderbilts 24-17 victory against South Carolina. €
Benoist contributed 15 total tackles, including a six-yard quarterback sack, a two-yard tackle for loss and a pass deflection against the Gamecocks.
His performance helped the Commodores limit South Carolina to a lone second half score and 325 total offensive yards.
Vanderbilt plays host to Rice on Saturday.
Georgia running back Knowshon Moreno was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against Central Michigan. |
