Cathedral nips Salem Cathedral High improved to 2-0 on the season as the Green Wave nipped Salem 16-14 in Tylertown Friday.
Preston Edwards, passed for 204 yards and a touchdown for the Green Wave.
"We kept them in the game," said Cathedral coach Craig Beesley. "We played good at times, but got inside the 20 four or five times and turned it over on downs or fumbled. It was frustrating. But we're off to a 2-0 start and the kids are playing with confidence."
Edwards' touchdown pass covered 41 yards to Kole Junkin in the first quarter.
Jeb White added a 3-yard TD run and also tackled Salem's tailback in the end zone for a safety.
Cathedral visits Pelahatchie Friday.
"Our next seven games are going to be tough," Beesley said. "We're at a stretch where we are playing teams very athletic and physical."
Pelahatchie is 1-1 on the season, falling to Bogue Chitto, 22-20 in overtime last week. Dan Harvey scored on an 85 yard run, while Martez Moore had a 3-yard scoring run.
"They have two good running backs and like t o run the option out of the spread," Beesley said. "We have to do a good job of keying on them and not letting them break the big run. We've been working on some new things offensively and I think the kids have caught on pretty quick to it. We need to keep them off balance."
Cathedral hosts St. Aloysius on Sept. 19 for Homecoming before welcoming Bogue Chitto the following week. |
