Story Archives: Block wins thriller

Block wins thriller
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Block's offense exploded for 35 points in the third quarter and used a 5-yard, game-winning touchdown from John Bloodsaw in the fourth quarter for a 48-43 win over Buckeye Friday.

Homecoming fans certainly got their money's worth.

"We needed to charge an extra four dollars after that one," said Block coach Benny Vault.

Block trailed 21-7 at halftime.

"I told the kids we needed to go out and score and we could still win this game," Vault said. "I just tried to stay positive and told them to keep their heads up."

Bloodsaw finished with 91 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Bears, who rushed for 217 yards and also got 218 yards passing from Curdarius Johnson.

Chris Barbat was limited to 78 yards on 13 carries, but scored three touchdowns to lead the Panther.

Block visits Mangham Friday.

"They have a lot of speed and throw the ball around a lot," Vault said. "Hopefully our defense is back on track after getting a couple of guys back. We've got a lot of confidence after the Buckeye win. The kids like the feeling of winning a lot better. And they play hard until the whistle stops."
