Early voting brisk as election day nears
Early voting for the November 4th general election was brisk Tuesday with 170 votes counted thus far including mail-in votes and 134 in-person votes.
Concordia has 13,698 voters eligible to cast ballots in the upcoming election, up slightly from the 13,639 voters eligible to vote in the October primary election.
Early voting continues through October 28, with the exception of Sunday. The registrar's office hours for early voting are from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
Concordia voters will decide during the November 4 election a handful of federal, district, state and local races and will consider a four-mill property tax for the Concordia Council on Aging (CCOA).
The race for President will be the top issue to be considered by voters nationally, while statewide, Louisiana voters will decide whether to return to office two-term Democrat Mary Landrieu who is being opposed by State Treasurer John Kennedy, a Republican.
Voters will also consider seven constitutional amendments, a district race for Third Circuit Court of Appeal and a local race for Justice of the Peace.
CCOA's four-mill tax proposal would generate about $400,000 a year and enable CCOA to offset skyrocketing costs and increased demand for services to a growing population of 60 and older residents in Concordia Parish, according to executive director Dorothy McDonald.

CA No. 1 (Act 935-SB32): According to the Public Affairs Research Council (PAR) this amendment would establish term limits for members of state boards and commissions.
CA No. 2 (Act 937-SB296), Extra Session - 7 calendar days prior. PAR says this amendment requires two additional days of notice before calling a special legislative session.
CA No. 3 (Act 931-HB183), Legis.-temp. successor ordered active duty. PAR reports that this allows a temporary successor to be appointed for legislators called to active military duty.
CA No. 4 (Act 932-HB420), Increase general severance tax allocated to parish. PAR notes that this will redistribute state severance tax revenue.
CA No. 5 (Act 933-HB461), New Property purchased / replace property sold. PAR says this will allow the transfer of special property tax assessment level for certain homeowners.
CA No. 6 (Act 936-SB295), Remove certain restrictions on blighted prop. This amendment, according to PAR, changes the requirements for public bodies to resell expropriated property.
