Potent Puckett downs Green Wave Puckett High scored 28 points in the second quarter on its way to a 57-14 win over Cathedral Friday at D'Evereux Stadium.
"They are everything they are built up to be," said Cathedral High head coach Craig Beesley. "Our kids played hard. We've faced the top three teams in the district the last three weeks and had a chance to win two of those three games."
Cathedral scored first as Preston Edwards completed a 54-yard scoring toss to Daniel Jenkins. Harrison Burns added the kick.
Following a Puckett score, Edwards connected with Daniel Huffines on a 38-yard TD pass play to give the Green Wave a 14-7 lead after the first quarter.
"We can say we're the only team to be beating them at the end of the first quarter," Beesley said.
It was all Puckett after that, as the Wolves led 35-14 at halftime.
Cathedral visits Pisgah Friday.
"They have one of the best running backs in the district, but don't have the people around him like Puckett does," Beesley said. "Hopefully we can contain him. Our kids have played hard and given a good effort each week and that's going to pay off for us at some point." |
