Monterey drops pair to Harrisonburb Monterey's basketball teams dropped a pair of close games at Harrisonburg Tuesday.
The Monterey boys fell 46-38, while the Lady Wolves were on the short end of a 40-35 score.
In the boys contest, Monterey led 11-8 after one period of play and 27-24 at halftime.
Harrisonburg outscored Monterey 10-7 in the third quarter and 12-4 in the final period to pull out the win.
Sophomore Josh Chapman led Monterey with 15 points, while Ross Lipsey added eight.
In the girls contest, both teams scored five points in the opening quarter before the Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Wolves 10-2 in the second period.
Monterey pulled to within 23-22 after three periods, outscoring Harrisonburg 15-8 before the Lady Bulldogs won the final quarter 18-13.
Kristen Lipsey led Monterey with 12 points, including two 3-pointers, while Ellen Bairnsfather added 11 points, including two 3-pointers.
Monterey's teams fell to Atlanta in the first round of the Atlanta Tournament last week. The Wolves and Lady Wolves will compete in the Calvin Tournament beginning Thursday, facing the home team in the first round. |
