Story Archives: Ferriday falls to Farmerville

Ferriday falls to Farmerville
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
For two quarters and 10 minutes Friday, Ferriday High and Farmerville played stingy football, as neither team was able to take the goose eggs off the scoreboard.

But in a game where every point was earned, the Farmers scored the crucial first touchdown on its way to a 20-7 win over the Trojans to stay unbeaten in District 2-2A.

"It's the little mistakes," said Ferriday High head coach Freddie Harrison. "We make a mistake here and a mistake there and it makes the difference."

Farmerville scored with 1:57 remaining in the third period as Eric Lloyd went in from five yards out and Cordarius Nation passed to Jkelton Joiner for the two-point conversion.

After stopping the Trojans on three plays, Nation teammed with Karl Pearson on a 69-yard scoring play for a 14-0 lead.

Following an interception, the Farmers put the game away with 2:12 left when Nation scored on an 8-yard run.

Ferriday got on the board in the final minute on a 30-yard pass from Rodney Lawson to Kendall Boxley.

Ferriday held Farmerville's running sensation LaDarrian Brown to 38 yards in 13 rushes.

Bobby Madison led Ferriday with 73 yards.

"I'm seeing some improvement from the first of the year to now," Harrison said. "The kids are learning. They are not making some of the same mistakes they made earlier."

Ferriday hosts Lake Providence Friday with the winner advancing to the playoffs. Lake Providence has not made the playoffs in 25 years.

"I don't think that makes a big difference," Harrison said. "It's not where you have been, but where you are going. We have to make sure of where we want to go."
