Trinity Episcopal kept Simpson Academy off the board for three quarters as the Saints defeated the Cougars 17-7 in an MPSA Class AA first round playoff contest.

Trinity hosts Oak Forest Friday.

Trinity's first two touchdowns cam on passes from Givonni Dent to Wells Middleton, with the first covering 65 yards and the second 34.

Chas Moroney added a 31-yard field goal.

Cathedral High closed out its season with a win as the Green Wave defeated West Lincoln 42-18 to finish at 5-5.

Preston Edwards tossed two touchdown passes to Kole Junkin, who also had a 20-yard run for a score.

Edwards, who passed for 286 yards, also connected with Daniel Huffines for a 15-yard TD play.

"W struggled in the first quarter, but took advantage of a few turnovers in the second quarter," said Cathedral coach Craig Beesley. "We knew the middle stretch of our schedule would be tough. We were hoping to pull out a few of those games, but didn't. I was glad to see us finish strong and end up on a winning note. Preston threw the ball real well and Kole had a big game."

Tensas Academy fell just short of a championship as the Chiefs were beaten by Calvary Christian, 64-54 Friday in the 8-man football Bowl Championship in St. Joseph.

The Chiefs won the South District, while Calvary Christian won the North.

Calvary Christian led 22-16 after one period and 36-30 at halftime.

Tensas outscored CCA 16-14 in the third period, but was outscored 14-8 in the final quarter.

Jim Letntz rushed for 95 yards for Tensas, while Kellon Lee had 78 rushing yards.

Jon-Truman Jones passed for 137 yards.
