Monterey High's boys and girls teams picked up a pair of wins, downing Avoyelles Charter for Homecoming Friday before disposing of Natchez Cathedral Tuesday in Natchez.

"It's been a while since we've won two games in a row," said Monterey coach Jeffery Odom. "The kids are playing with confidence and understanding what we are trying to do."

On Friday, Monterey's boys defeated Avoyelles, 46-36.

Monterey led 16-12 after one period and 29-18 at halftime as Ross Lipsey scored 11 of his 13 points.

Josh Chapman scored six of his 19 points in the third period as the Wolves outscored the Saints 17-11.

In the girls contest, Monerey led 6-4 after one period adn 18-10 at halftime.

The Lady Wolves outscored the Lady Saints 14-4 in the third quarter.

Kendall Lipsey led the Lady Wolves with 14 points, while Rachel Pecanty added eight.

Against Cathedral, the Lady Wolves jumped out to a 14-5 lead and outscored the Lady Wave 10-3 in the final period for a 45-29 win.

Kendall Lipsey led Monterey with 17 points, while Brooke Baker and Rachel Pecanty added 11 points each.

Monterey's boys trailed Cathedral 9-7 in the first half before taking a 16-12 lead at halftime. The Wolves outscored the Green Wave 25-19 in the second half.

Ross Lipsey led Monterey with 14 points, while 6-foot-5 sophomore Josh Chapman added 11.

"We're playing our inside-out basketball," Odom said. "When you have a big guy in the middle he becomes a threat and when you get the ball to him it opens up things for other people. Ross did a great job in the second half."

Monterey plays in the Grace Christian Tournament this week.
